Recently, we’ve been working hard on a feature for ParkMyBike: subscriptions for bike lockers and garages. Users can now easily subscribe through the ParkMyBike app, while providers manage them via the Admin Dashboard. It was no small project, but thanks to close teamwork, we made it happen! In this blog, we’ll take you through how we approached it.
A new design in an existing app
Our UX/UI designer Texas faced a challenging task: how to add subscriptions without completely overhauling the app? Since subscriptions are optional for providers, he made sure the changes are only visible when a provider offers subscriptions. This way, the ParkMyBike app remains clean and simple for everyone.
Subscribing had to be as easy as making a single reservation. Thanks to our app developers Dominique (Android) and Dana (iOS), you can now instantly see in the app if a subscription is available, and choose between monthly or yearly payments. And for the dedicated cyclists: you can have multiple subscriptions, thanks to our backend team Tom and Floris!
Nobody wants to constantly check if there’s a spot available, so we’ve also added a waitlist. Together with our backend and app team, we’ve made sure that users are automatically added to the waitlist, get a notification when a spot becomes available, and can immediately use the bike locker or garage after payment.
Additionally, there’s now a clear overview in the app. You can see which subscriptions you have, cancel them anytime, and the start screen now shows not just your reservations, but also your active subscriptions, thanks to our app developers.
Changes in the Admin Dashboard
With the new subscriptions in the app, the Admin Dashboard needed an update too. Texas worked on a design that expands the system while keeping the existing visual style. The result? An intuitive dashboard where admins can easily determine which lockers or garages are available for subscriptions and whether they can be booked monthly or yearly.
Behind the scenes, our backend team set up a system for payments, cancellations, and waitlist management. Everything now runs automatically, so admins can focus on other tasks.
In addition to the subscription implementation, our frontend developer Tim made sure the dashboard is even more user-friendly. Admins can now see at a glance how many people are on the waitlist and which locations are popular. Also, the website now displays whether subscriptions are available per location and their prices. Everything is perfectly integrated!
A project we’re proud of
This project was a great challenge and shows how we can work as a team to deliver something great. Thanks to this new solution, bike parking has become even easier, and administrators have better insights into their occupancy. A big step forward for ParkMyBike!
