The Gartner Hype Cycle as shown in the image, is a graphical representation of the maturity and application of specific technologies. The cycle consists of five stages: the "Technology Trigger," the "Peak of Inflated Expectations," the "Trough of Disillusionment," the "Slope of Enlightenment," and finally the "Plateau of Productivity." In this article, we discuss the three technologies we have highlighted that are in different stages of this curve.
AI and Machine Learning: The New Frontier in Software
The domain of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has been a true game-changer for industries worldwide, and the software development sector is no exception. Last year, there were already massive leaps made in this technology, and this year we expect the boundaries to be pushed even further. At 9to5 software, we leverage all the latest AI developments to add more and more efficiency and intelligence to our solutions.
One area where we already extensively use AI is in structuring very disorganized data. The advanced algorithms can filter through the chaos to find order and convert raw data into actionable insights. Moreover, the arrival of on-device AI, such as with the upcoming Android Gemini, marks a significant leap forward. This innovation gives us the opportunity to make our applications more personal and intuitive, significantly improving user experience and efficiency.
Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile: The Future of Cross-Platform Apps
Last fall, the stable version of Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM) was rolled out for the first time. This is a turning point for app developers. After several internal pilots, we are very excited to start using KMM for our apps. This ushers in a new era of cross-platform development. Where we previously were very critical of hybrid solutions, KMM enables us to write a significant portion of the code just once and then implement it on both Android and iOS platforms. This ensures consistency and shortens the time to market for our applications. And while the app's user interface (UI) is still developed natively, ensuring the ideal user experience (including that of developers) is preserved. In addition, adding automated tests becomes much easier, as the shared codebase does not have to account for the varying conditions of a smartphone.
For 2024, we expect a larger adoption of this technology, at least at 9to5 software itself.
IoT Reliable and Future-Proof: Ideal for ParkMyBike
The development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has established itself in 2024 as one of the most influential technological trends, with the technology reaching maturity and offering a wide range of practical applications in daily life and various industries. IoT technology, now firmly on the "Plateau of Productivity," has evolved into a stable and reliable foundation for creating smart, connected systems that improve efficiency, insight, and ease of use. This evolution is characterized by more advanced sensors, improved connectivity options like 5G networks, and more integrated AI and machine learning capabilities, making IoT devices smarter and more autonomous.
Our ParkMyBike platform is a good example of how these advanced IoT developments are applied to solve everyday problems, in this case, improving urban mobility and addressing the challenges of bike parking. Where previously the doubts were too great about whether IoT still had a future, we now see a significant increase in demand for our product and our solution. By deploying this mature IoT technology, ParkMyBike ensures a reliable service that is prepared for future mobility trends and urban planning needs.
At 9to5 software, we are excited about what the future will bring! With our expertise in AI, Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile, and IoT developments, we place ourselves at the forefront of the software development industry. We want to push the boundaries of what is possible, delivering solutions that are not only innovative and high-quality but also smart and accessible. Are you also interested in a smart solution?
